Sent, Not Just Scheduled

Priya stood in the elevator at 7:40 AM, the fourth floor of her own building, running through the funding update she’d give her board in twenty minutes. The doors opened, then closed again — someone else’s floor — and in that extra thirty seconds of stillness, calendar-brain took over completely. Sixteen more meetings sat stacked in her day, each one demanding a version of her that was competent, on time, and prepared. Somewhere between floor two and floor four, the sense that she’d been sent here for anything beyond the 8:00 meeting had quietly disappeared, and she hadn’t even noticed it leaving.

Clarity — Efficient Isn’t the Same as Sent

A calendar tells you where to be. It doesn’t tell you why you’re there or Who put you there. Most executive Mondays run entirely on the first kind of knowledge and never touch the second — which means competence can be humming along while purpose quietly checks out, undetected, for weeks at a time.

Hear — Commissioned, Not Merely Booked

“Jesus said to them again, ‘Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, even so I am sending you.'” (John 20:21)

This is the risen Christ, in the room with frightened disciples who’d just abandoned Him days earlier, handing them the same word used for His own mission from the Father. The Greek verb is apostellō — to send with the sender’s own authority behind you, the root of “apostle.” It’s not a vague nudge toward general usefulness; it’s a specific commissioning, carrying weight because of who sent you, not how equipped you feel. Jesus doesn’t wait for the disciples to feel ready. He speaks the sending as already true.

Notice, too, what comes immediately before the sending: “Peace be with you” — spoken twice in this short passage. The peace isn’t a nice preamble before the real content of the commission arrives; it’s part of the commission itself. John 17:18 shows the same pattern from Jesus’s own prayer the night before His death: “As you sent me into the world, so I have sent them into the world.” The Sender never sends anxious people out to prove themselves. He sends people who are already at peace, into work that was already assigned before they walked in.

Because God’s love is a commissioning that already gives you today’s assignment, how does that change how you walk into your first meeting this morning?

Exchange — Trusted With the Assignment

Trade the identity of “person filling calendar slots” for “person sent into this floor, this board meeting, this one conversation.” The trust isn’t contingent on the outcome of the meeting. It was given before the elevator doors opened.

Walk — Name the One Meeting

Before you open your calendar, name one specific meeting or conversation today and say quietly: “I’m sent into this one.” Just that meeting. Not the whole week.

Closing question: If the Sender already trusts you with today, does the meeting still need to prove anything?
