The Meeting You Over-Prepared For — and What It Was Really About

The Daily CHEW™
Moving God’s Love from Head to Heart for Christian Professionals

You were the first one in the room. Legal pad filled. Slide deck reviewed for the fourth time. Contingencies mapped for questions that would probably never come. The meeting went fine — it almost always does. But the preparation was never really about the meeting. It was about the feeling you get when you walk into a room without every variable accounted for — the low hum of exposure that says if you cannot control what is coming, something bad will happen and it will be your fault. That is what it looks like when structure — a legitimate gift God gave you — gets promoted from tool to anchor. Saturday’s anchor CHEW named this pattern. Today, God meets you in the specific room where it plays out every Monday morning.

Clarity

Where has preparation crossed the line from stewardship to self-protection — and what am I actually afraid of when I walk into a room without every contingency covered?

Hear

“Do not be anxious beforehand what you are to say, but say whatever is given you in that hour, for it is not you who speak, but the Holy Spirit.” — Mark 13:11, ESV

God does not leave you unequipped in the room. The Holy Spirit carries what your legal pad never could — the words, the timing, the outcome. Scripture reveals that God Himself sustains the leader who stops requiring preparation to deliver what only He can deliver.

Exchange

If I really believed God’s love is steady enough to sustain me in the room I cannot fully script — that the Holy Spirit is already carrying what my preparation never could — how would that change the way I walk into this Monday’s first meeting?

Walk

Before your next meeting today, prepare the way you normally would. Then close the notebook. Pray: Lord, I have done the work You gave me the capacity to do. I trust You with what I cannot script. Walk in without one final review. Let the discomfort be the training ground where functional trust gets built. If this is the only thing I do from this CHEW today, it is enough.

With you on the journey,
Ryan

If you had to put this into one sentence for today, what would you say God is inviting you to rest in or return to?
