The Daily CHEW™
Moving God’s Love from Head to Heart for Christian Professionals.
The Opportunity in Front of You
You’re sitting at the end of a long table, looking at two opportunities that both look good on paper.
One would raise your visibility and stretch your capacity; the other would deepen what you’re already building and protect the culture you care about.
You can feel your ambition light up at the possibilities — growth, impact, momentum.
You’re not trying to tamp that down.
You know your drive is part of how God wired you, and you want to steward it, not apologize for it.
At the same time, you care deeply that your future self — the you ten years from now, the you answering to Christ — can look back and know your integrity is proud of the way you pursued wins.
Somewhere beneath the spreadsheets, there’s a quieter question taking shape:
“How do I aim my ambition so that my conscience and my calling celebrate the choices I make — not just the results I get?”
What if God’s securing love is meant to sharpen not only how hard you run, but what you run after, and how you decide what is truly yours to say yes to?
How God’s Love Meets You Here
A common assumption for driven leaders sounds like this: “If I don’t chase every big opportunity, I’m wasting what God has given me.”
It feels spiritual, even humble — as if the most honoring thing you could do with your gifts is say yes as often and as aggressively as possible.
But underneath, it can quietly tether your ambition to fear: fear of missing out, fear of being passed by, fear of not doing “enough” for God.
God’s Word gives a different frame for ambition and integrity:
“And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.” (Colossians 3:17, ESV)
In Christ, your work and your decisions are not random; they are done “in His name” — under His character, His authority, His purposes.
His love has already secured your place before Him, so your yes and your no are no longer about proving your worth; they become expressions of gratitude and stewardship.
Here’s how God’s love sharpens this:
When His love moves from head to heart, you begin to see your ambition as a good gift that needs a wise aim, not a god you have to obey.
You are free to ask, “Which opportunities allow me to act most in line with Jesus’ name — His truthfulness, His compassion, His faithfulness?”
From there, integrity is no longer the brake you slam when things go too far; it becomes the joyful voice that says, “I’m grateful we chose this path,” because it reflects the One you represent.
You can still love growth and impact — but now you pursue them in ways that your integrity and your future self will be glad to tell stories about.
CHEW On This™: Practice Moving God’s Love from Head to Heart
Pause at each CHEW step below. Reflect, and answer in your own words — you’ll see a sample below each question. This is where the Gospel gets personal. If time is tight, linger with just one step — especially the Walk step at the end. This is a practice, not a performance review; even a small, honest answer counts.
C — Confess
What decision, opportunity, or commitment in front of you right now would look different if you aimed your ambition primarily at honoring Christ’s name, not just at maximizing impact or visibility?
Sample answer:
“I’m looking at a new initiative that could raise our profile quickly, and I notice how much my ambition is drawn to that. I also see another quieter investment in our people and systems that seems more aligned with the way Jesus cares for those entrusted to Him. I’ve been weighing them more through outcomes than through His name.”
H — Hear
What does God say in Scripture that clarifies how He wants your ambition and integrity to work together?
Sample answer:
“Scripture says in Colossians 3:17 that whatever I do, I’m to do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks. That tells me my decisions aren’t just about what works — they’re about what can be done with a thankful heart that reflects who He is.”
E — Exchange
If you really believed God’s love has already secured your worth and calling in Christ, how would that sharpen the way you aim your ambition in a specific decision or opportunity this week?
Sample answer:
“If I really believed that, I’d feel less pressure to grab every impressive option. I’d focus on the opportunities where I can act in a way that is truthful, honoring, sustainable, and kind to the people affected — even if that path looks slower on paper.”
W — Walk
What is one small, specific step you will take today to bring God’s love‑shaped wisdom into how you aim your ambition?
Sample answer:
“Before I confirm my next big yes, I’ll take 90 seconds to pray: ‘Lord Jesus, thank You that my life and calling are already secure in You. Show me which option I can genuinely pursue in Your name, with a thankful heart and clean conscience.’ Then I’ll write down one sentence about why that choice aligns with Your character. If that’s the only adjustment I make today, that’s enough.”
Worship Response: Turn Gratitude into Worship
Take 30 seconds — thank God for what His love has done in Christ and is doing in you. Worship is responding to His finished work, even when your feelings lag behind.
Lord Jesus, thank You for giving me gifts, energy, and ambition to steward for Your glory.
Thank You that my worth and future are secure in You, not in the opportunities I chase.
Sharpen my wisdom so that what I say yes to and what I say no to both reflect Your name in ways my integrity will celebrate for years to come. Help me pursue impact in ways that make You look as trustworthy and good as You truly are.
With you on the journey,
Ryan
If you had to put this into one sentence for today, what would you say God is inviting you to steward or decide differently?
