The Daily CHEW™
Moving God’s Love from Head to Heart for Christian Professionals
When Success Can’t Shake the Worry
It’s late—you’re scrolling emails, mind racing. Deadlines, unspoken conflicts, and the “what-ifs” spiral through your mind. Outwardly, you’re composed—delivering results, showing up for meetings and family dinners. But inside, anxiety keeps pressing in. You wonder, “If I slow down enough to be honest, will I fall apart? Is faith just pretending it’s all fine?”
The Gospel’s Counter-Intuition: God Wants Your Unfiltered Worries
We don’t change by stuffing stress away or by putting on a brave face. God isn’t demanding spiritual performance—He moves toward our anxiety, not away from it. God invites you to bring every raw worry to Him, not when you’re ready, but when you’re real. Scripture says, “Cast all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you” (1 Peter 5:7). The surprise? His love doesn’t label your anxiety “weak”—it welcomes messy prayers and broken hearts.
Over 70% of Christian professionals report their greatest spiritual growth happens when they name their worries honestly before God, not when they hide them (Barna, 2024). Let’s CHEW on this together.
CHEW On This™ in 3–5 Minutes
Confess (C) to God
Father, here’s what I’m feeling: anxious, tense, tempted to pretend I’m fine. But I know You already see my heart.
Hear (H) from God in Scripture
“Cast all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you.” (1 Peter 5:7)
God wants my real, unpolished concerns. His care is personal, active, never distant.
Exchange (E) with God
If I really believed God’s love is unshakeable and hands-on, how would that change how I handle stress?
Today, I give You the urge to hide my fears; I receive Your invitation to pray with honesty—no filter needed.
Walk (W) with the Holy Spirit
Holy Spirit, guide me: What next step pleases You?
For ten minutes, I’ll write my worries as prayers—just as they come—trusting You hear and care for each one.
Seven Steps to Turn Worry into Real Prayer
- Admit the Worry, Out Loud
- Say it honestly: “God, here’s what’s keeping me up tonight.”
- Why it works: Naming worries decreases anxiety’s hold by half (Harvard Health).
- Write Down Every Raw Fear
- Use a notebook or notes app. Don’t censor—just record.
- Example: “I’m anxious about next quarter’s targets and how it affects my family.”
- Pray With Scripture, Not Just Your Feelings
- Read, “Cast all your anxieties on him…”
- Why it works: Scripture grounds your emotions in God’s promises.
- Share with One Trusted Friend
- Text or message a peer: “Could you pray with me about this worry?”
- Community breaks the shame or isolation of anxiety.
- Practice the Ten-Minute Rule
- For ten minutes, stop “fixing”—focus on writing, breathing, or reading a psalm as prayer.
- Giving time signals to your heart that God is active, not absent.
- Refuse Spiritual Performance
- Pray simple, “messy” prayers. No need for eloquence.
- Honest prayers reshape your connection to God.
- Celebrate Any Step Toward Honesty
- One confession, one prayer, one shared struggle is breakthrough.
- Progress is measured in honesty, not perfection.
