A Story: Marcus and the Unseen Struggle

Marcus always seemed put-together on the outside. He worked hard, showed up at church, and kept his worries to himself. But as questions about God’s love and his own worth surfaced, Marcus realized he was wrestling alone. One Sunday, after a small group meeting, he hesitantly shared his doubts with a friend. To his surprise, instead of judgment, he received compassion—and his friend admitted he battled many of the same questions. In that moment, Marcus discovered God doesn’t ask us to walk this road in silence. He invites us to experience His love—together.

The Weight of Hiding—But the Gift of Being Known

Have you ever thought, Maybe I’m the only one who struggles like this? Many of us believe we have to figure out faith on our own, fearful that honest questions or past mistakes will push others away. But that secret struggle grows heavier in isolation. God has a better way.

The Gospel makes it clear: God’s love is most powerfully known in community, not behind closed doors. He calls us into relationships where we can be honest, supported, and transformed by His grace.

The Gospel in Everyday Connection

God didn’t design you to lone-wolf your spiritual journey. Whether you’re navigating stressful workdays, parenting challenges, or just the ups and downs of life, you need people who point you back to what matters: God’s unfailing love. When you open up, even just a bit, you welcome others—and God—into your real story.

“Let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds … encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching.”
Hebrews 10:24-25

God’s Grace Changes Everything

Trying to muscle through faith alone is exhausting. We end up hiding, pretending, or striving for perfection. The Gospel changes that: God’s love covers our weakness; His grace welcomes us, flaws and all. Community isn’t about looking strong—it’s about helping each other rest in what God has already done.

Seven Gospel-Driven Steps for Growing Together

  1. Get Real with God and One Person
Take a risk: tell God about your struggle, and then share one honest thought with a friend or group.
  2. Ask for the Right People
Pray for safe, encouraging friends. Ask God to help you spot and welcome them.
  3. Invite Others to “Chew” with You
Share a thought or question you’re wrestling with. Ask someone, “Can we talk and pray about this together?”
  4. Listen—And Offer Encouragement
When someone opens up, listen without rushing to fix. Remind each other of God’s love in the middle of the mess.
  5. Celebrate Every Step
Mark progress, no matter how small. Thank God when you or someone you love moves one inch closer to Him.
  6. Show Grace When You Fall Short
When things go sideways, let your community remind you: God’s love doesn’t change. Start again.
  7. Thank God for Connection
Take time to praise God for the people in your life and for His steady love that anchors every relationship.
