The Daily CHEW
CHEW on God’s Love. Live Transformed. Multiply Hope.
A client recently shared how her perspective on work completely shifted after we discussed seeing her role as ministry. She said, “I used to think about work and faith as separate compartments—Sunday was for God, Monday through Friday was for business. But now I sit in my car for a few extra minutes each morning before walking into the office, not because I’m dreading work, but because I’m preparing my heart to serve God through everything I do that day. Those few minutes have changed everything about how I approach my work.”
Maybe you’ve felt this tension too as a high-performing leader. You’ve built something significant, mastered complex skills, and created value that serves others. But somewhere between the quarterly reviews and strategic planning, you wonder: does this work matter to God beyond just providing for my family? What if the most strategic thing we can do is learn to see our work as worship—not because we try harder, but because God’s love transforms our perspective on everything we touch?
Beyond Paychecks: The Heart That Transforms How We Work
Scripture reveals something revolutionary about work: when we’re anchored in God’s love, our labor becomes an expression of worship, not just a means to an end. Marketplace ministry isn’t about adding Jesus to our business—it’s about letting His love redefine why we work, how we work, and for whom we ultimately work.
Paul writes, “Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men” (Colossians 3:23). This isn’t about working harder or being more religious at the office. It’s about receiving God’s love so deeply that it transforms our motivation from proving ourselves to serving Him through the unique gifts, influence, and opportunities He’s placed in our hands.
This isn’t soft spirituality—it’s the most strategic mindset we can embrace. When God’s love anchors our work, we make decisions based on His character rather than just market pressures. We invest in people’s growth because they matter to Him. We pursue excellence because it reflects His nature. We handle conflict and competition with grace because we’re secure in our identity as His beloved children.
The Mission Field You Already Occupy
Consider how God’s love transforms our approach to common workplace dynamics:
Client Relationships shift from transactions to opportunities for demonstrating Christ-like excellence, integrity, and care—creating trust that opens hearts to deeper conversations about what really matters.
Team Leadership becomes about stewarding the potential God has placed in others, believing that our role is to help them flourish as image-bearers, not just achieve company objectives.
Strategic Decisions anchor in wisdom and character rather than just profitability, creating space to ask: “How does this honor God and serve people’s true needs?”
Workplace Culture reflects kingdom values through how we handle pressure, celebrate wins, process failures, and treat people regardless of their position or productivity.
CHEW Reset: From Career to Calling
Let’s pause for 3 minutes to remember why we work:
- Breathe: Three deep breaths. God’s love for you exists before and beyond your professional achievements.
- Adore: Father, You’ve placed me in this work not by accident but by design. This role is a stewardship from You.
- Confess: Where am I working more from fear, ambition, or the need to prove myself rather than from Your love? What drives my work ethic—trust in You or anxiety about security?
- Hear: Read Colossians 3:23-24, 1 Corinthians 10:31, Ephesians 2:10. How does Scripture describe God’s heart for our work?
- Exchange: If God’s love really defines why I work, I would exchange my anxiety about _____ for confidence in serving Him through my unique gifts and opportunities.
- Walk: Today, what’s one way I can consciously approach my work as worship—whether in a difficult conversation, strategic decision, or team interaction?
- Thanksgiving Worship: Thank God that He’s called me to this specific work, and His love transforms even the most mundane tasks into expressions of worship.
Remember: Work-as-worship doesn’t compromise professional excellence—it elevates it. When God’s love anchors our labor, we pursue results that honor Him and truly serve others.
CHEW On This:
If I really believed that God’s love transforms my work into worship and my office into a mission field, how would that change my approach to leadership, client relationships, and measuring success today?
