Moving God’s Love from Head to Heart for Christian Professionals
You may know the feeling of outworking your fears. You carry the weight of providing, so you log long hours, keep pushing, and quietly assume that if you slow down, the good things in your life might disappear. You love your family deeply, but they can end up receiving your leftovers instead of your best.
For years, God allowed me to build a practice through 80–90 hour weeks. I missed “firsts” with my kids because it felt like the business could dry up at any moment. Yet in reality, we lived below our means, never missed a bill or a meal, and the “worst” was cutting back on eating out. God was providing the whole time.
Now, at 56, God’s love is moving from head to heart in a fresh way. I am starting to live as if He really has been our Provider all along—protecting gym time, making healthier food choices, and, best of all, sharing unhurried evenings with my wife as we get pulled into the latest British crime thriller together.
Confess
Lord, I confess that I often live as if our provision ultimately depends on my overwork. I acknowledge how easily I have given my family what is left over instead of my first and best attention. I bring to You the fear that if I slow down, everything good might collapse.
Hear
“Therefore do not be anxious, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ … and your heavenly Father knows that you need them all.” Matthew 6:31–32, ESV
Jesus reveals a Father who already knows what you need and faithfully provides, so you can release anxious striving and receive each day as cared for.
Exchange
If I really believed God’s love is attentive, generous, and already providing for my family, how would that change the way I pace my work and what I offer them this week?
Walk
Take 30–60 seconds today to look at your calendar and block one small, concrete pocket of time—a walk, a shared show, or an unrushed dinner—where you will offer your family your full attention as an act of trust in God’s provision. If this is the only thing I do from this CHEW today, it is enough.
With you on the journey,
Ryan
