The Daily CHEW™
Chew on God’s Love. Live Transformed. Multiply Hope.
It’s early at my Northlake office, the kind of quiet that encourages reflection before the day’s pace picks up. In these moments, I often think back to the breakthroughs I’ve witnessed—both in my own life and with clients—when someone courageously shares their story. Not as a polished performance, but as a narrative that allows the deeper patterns and beliefs shaping us to come into the light.
Whether you’re opening up in a session, a CHEW group, or with a friend, story-telling isn’t just for connection. It’s a powerful way to discover the hidden frameworks that drive how we experience growth, healing, and relationships.
Why Story-Telling Uncovers Core Beliefs
When we share our stories, we move beyond surface-level updates. The details we choose, the moments we revisit, and the emotions we recall often reveal long-standing beliefs—about ourselves, God, others, and what’s possible. Honest story-sharing gives these patterns a name, making them available for both prayerful reflection and Gospel change.
Concrete Steps for Sharing Well
- Prepare just enough: Choose one or two memories, turning points, or relationships that mean something to you right now. You don’t need to have it all mapped out—sometimes the best reflections come as you’re telling it.
- Start with the basics but let it breathe: Try reflecting on a few prompts:
- What was your early family or home environment like, and how did it shape you?
- Are there any pivotal moments (good or bad) that changed how you see yourself, your work, or your relationships?
- Who have been the most influential people along the way? How have they impacted your story?
- Where do you currently find meaning or a sense of purpose?
- Invite vulnerability: Share not just what happened—but what you felt, hoped for, feared, or wondered in those moments. You don’t have to share everything at once. The willingness to name even a little discomfort or longing can open new doors.
- Use questions to guide you before and after sharing:
- What details stick out, even if you’re not sure why?
- What belief about yourself or God shows up in this memory?
- Where do you see a need for God’s love or truth to shape your perspective?
- After you share: Did a new insight or belief become clear? Is there something you want to pray about, ask for encouragement in, or keep exploring?
Bringing the CHEW Framework Into Your Story
- Confess: Name honestly the struggle, longing, or old script beneath your story.
- Hear: Listen for a Gospel truth or Scripture that responds to your story, even if it feels fragile at first.
- Exchange: Ask what God may be inviting you to let go of, and what He’s offering in its place—grace, security, love, or new direction.
- Walk: Identify one small step—a conversation, prayer, or change in attitude—that could honor what God is surfacing.
For Sessions, Groups, or Friendships
Remember, there’s no pressure to cover your entire life or have it figured out. Discovery is about presence, honesty, and invitation—not perfection. Whether you’re in a coaching session, a CHEW group, or simply with a friend who cares, the goal isn’t to impress or explain everything. It’s to open a space where your story can be met with acceptance and God’s transformative love.
CHEW On This™
If I really believed God’s love welcomes all of my story—every joy, regret, and hope—how would that change the way I show up and share honestly, inviting God and others to walk with me toward deeper healing and clarity?
