The Best Mindset for CHEWing: Why Showing Up Matters More Than Getting Results

The Daily CHEW™
Moving God’s Love from Head to Heart for Christian Professionals

You stare at your journal, heart heavy with longing: “Why don’t I feel this working? When will God’s love finally drop from my head to my heart?” You try to “do” the CHEW steps just right—Confess, Hear, Exchange, Walk—but sometimes you leave as empty as you started. The temptation is to turn CHEW into a performance, a fix, or a spiritual recipe for results. But what if the biggest breakthrough doesn’t come from mastery, but from showing up, honest and open, regardless of what you feel or achieve?

Gospel Insight: God Works in the Faithful Return, Not in the Flawless Formula
In the Christian walk, the real “success” is never about our perfect effort, insight, or emotional payoff. God meets us not when we perform CHEW perfectly, but when we come as we are—hungry, distracted, even doubting—trusting that His love is most available to those who simply show up and say, “Here I am.”
Surprise: The change you seek rarely comes in the act of “achieving” insight. Research and spiritual experience agree: those who persist in simple, honest spiritual routines, regardless of outcome, eventually experience deeper transformation than those who obsess over technique or rely on feeling.Romans 8:26-27, Isaiah 57:15
God is not a vending machine—He is a loving Father, meeting you right where you are, not where you wish you were.

Let’s CHEW with that in mind.

CHEW On This™ in 3–5 Minutes

Confess (C):
Father, I admit I want results. I want to feel Your love, not just know it. But sometimes I CHEW out of duty, distraction, or disappointment. Forgive me for believing You’re only pleased when I “get it right.”

Hear (H):
Father, what Scripture do You want me to wrestle with right now?
“For thus says the One who is high and lifted up…‘I dwell in the high and holy place, and also with him who is of a contrite and lowly spirit…’” (Isaiah 57:15, ESV)
God’s love lands in humble places—the open, honest, and present hearts—not in proud, pressured, or performative ones.

Exchange (E):
If I really believed God’s love is actively seeking the humble and honest heart, how would that change my striving in CHEW or my discouragement when I “feel nothing”?
Today, I give You my need to measure my progress, and I receive Your delight in simple, honest presence.

Walk (W):
Holy Spirit, guide me to the next step that pleases You.
Today, I’ll spend 5 minutes doing my CHEW—not for outcome, but as an act of trust. I’ll come as I am, confident that’s enough.

The Most Helpful Mindset for Moving God’s Love from Head to Heart

1. Show Up Honestly—Even With Doubt, Apathy, or Mess
You don’t have to “feel spiritual” to be received.
Why it works: God meets the real you, not the performed version. Honesty is intimacy’s doorway.

2. Value Presence Over Performance
Let CHEW be about being with God, not fixing yourself or proving something.
Why it works: God desires relationship, not ritual. Absorbing His presence is transformative, however small.

3. Release Scorekeeping—Don’t Judge Progress by Feelings
Emotions are not the metric of spiritual growth.
Why it works: Many don’t notice breakthrough until much later—and often experience deep change after long “dry” stretches.

4. Expect Faithfulness, Not Fireworks
It’s normal to feel dry, distracted, or empty some days.
Why it works: God honors every honest return; your soul takes in love over time, like thirst quenched by steady drinking.

5. Lean Into Curiosity, Not Criticism
If you feel “stuck,” ask, “God, what might You be teaching me here?”
Why it works: Curiosity leads to openness; self-judgment closes the heart.

6. Remember—It’s Not a Test, But a Relationship
God’s goal isn’t grading your CHEW, but deepening connection.
Why it works: Security frees you to linger, listen, and receive—even when nothing seems to “work.”

7. Celebrate Small Faithfulness
A single, honest moment of showing up is a win.
Why it works: Spiritual breakthroughs are built on everyday return.

Worship Invitation
Pause now. Thank God that your presence—not your perfection—delights His heart. Rest in knowing He pursues you in your ordinary, distracted, halting CHEW. Whisper gratitude that God is working, seen or unseen, every time you simply come.
