The Daily CHEW™
Moving God’s Love From Head to Heart for Christian Professionals.
Last month, I faced a conversation I wanted to avoid—one that felt risky for a working relationship but necessary for real growth. As a leader, it’s tempting to keep the peace by staying silent, yet discomfort just grows. I longed for courage rooted not in pride or control, but in Gospel-shaped grace and honesty.
Maybe you know that tension too. Maybe the hard topics—at work, or home—feel daunting, but silence has started to build walls. Perhaps you fear rejection, misunderstandings, or losing trust, and you crave a way to speak truth with love instead of bravado or defensiveness.
Here’s the deeper story: Jesus never sidestepped hard conversations. The Gospel emboldens us with both courage and gentleness: not to wound with truth, or to comfort by avoiding it, but to step in trusting God’s love can hold both honesty and healing. Real relationships, at work and home, grow through God’s grace guiding how we speak, listen, and stay present.
Let’s practice this through CHEW™.
CHEW in 3-5 Minutes: Courageous Conversation
- Take three deep breaths. Invite God’s presence before the conversation or when preparing tough words.
- Adore: “Father, thank you for giving me grace and truth—courageous honesty and gentle love—even when I’m afraid.”
- Confess: “I admit it feels easier to avoid conflict or defend myself. Where am I holding back honesty or grace?”
- Hear: Listen for God’s wisdom:
- “Speak the truth in love.” (Ephesians 4:15)
- “Let your conversation be always full of grace.” (Colossians 4:6)
- Exchange:
If I really believed God’s love is gentle, wise, and unshakeable, how would that change my willingness to pursue difficult conversations?
I would exchange avoidance for bold honesty.
I would trade defensiveness for gentle listening.
I would let God’s grace steer my words and heart. - Walk: Name one step—ask for a conversation, clarify your intent, or take time to listen first—anchored in grace.
Thanksgiving & Worship:
God, thank you for loving me through truth and grace. Shape my courage, my words, and my relationships in your kindness.
Remember This
Growth isn’t instant; every honest return to God is a win. God delights in presence and trust, not perfection or emotional breakthrough.
CHEW On This™
Set a time later today to revisit the Exchange question: “If I really believed God’s love is gentle, wise, and unshakeable, how would that change my willingness to pursue difficult conversations?” Notice what different answers emerge and if pursuing new answers helps God’s love move a little deeper from your head to your heart.
Community Call
Repeat the CHEW tomorrow, with colleagues, family, or in daily rhythms. CHEW works best in community—invite others into gospel-shaped honesty and compassion, and share what shifts as God’s love moves from head to heart across all your relationships.
