Every love you’ve ever trusted with your whole weight has, at some point, run out of strength to hold you. God’s love has not. It has held everyone who has ever leaned on it, all the way to the end, without once losing its grip.

C – Clarity: The Word You Use for Both a Puppy and Your Marriage

You might have said something like, “I love this couch” more times this year than you have said anything true about the love God has for you. That’s not an exaggeration — it’s just what happens to a word this overused. “Love” gets spent on weather, coffee, a new hire, a vacation, until by the time Scripture uses it for God, the word arrives worn smooth, carrying none of the force it’s actually describing. By the time the word reaches something this serious, it’s already been drained of everything but a vague, pleasant feeling. The gap isn’t in what God’s love is. It’s in our understanding of the word.

H – Hear: The Grip Nothing Can Break

“I give them eternal life, and they will never perish, and no one will snatch them out of my hand. My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all, and no one is able to snatch them out of the Father’s hand.” (John 10:28–29)

Jesus said this inside the temple, at the Feast of Dedication, to a crowd that had picked up stones against Him earlier in this same chapter. He’s finishing the Good Shepherd discourse, and this is the line He lands on — not a promise about how tightly you’re holding on, but about how tightly He is. The Greek behind “snatch” is harpasei, a violent, forceful seizing — the word for a wolf tearing a lamb out of a flock, or a thief ripping away plunder. Jesus is saying that kind of power doesn’t exist against Him, against the Father, or against you while you’re in his hand. This security was never about your strength to begin with. It never had to be.

E – Exchange: Trading a Fragile Word for an Unbreakable One

Trade the soft, all-purpose word you’ve been using for love for the specific, concrete thing Jesus actually described.

Because God’s love is like a grip no thief or wolf could ever break open, how does that change what you believe about how secure you actually are?

W – Walk: Remind Yourself of the Strength of God’s Love

Say this out loud, alone, before you move on to anything else today: “No power in heaven, on earth, or under it, can pry me out of Your hand.” Say it a second time, slower.
