Vision CHEW: Aligning Your Next Season with God’s Love and Calling

The Daily CHEW™

CHEW on God’s Love. Live Transformed. Multiply Hope.

Last month, while walking through Piedmont Park with my family, my 20-year-old son asked me a question that stopped me cold: “Dad, how do you know if you’re doing what God actually wants you to do?” As a driven, plan-loving, needs-a-target consultant who’s built a career helping others find clarity, I realized I was facing my own season of wondering. That question led me to go all in on CHEW. It led to risking 50% of revenues by pulling down my non-Christian site so I can focus and have my team focus on helping Christians get God’s love from their heads to their hearts. That familiar ache surfaced: the longing to know my direction isn’t just strategic, but sacred.

Maybe you’re in a similar place—standing at a crossroads with a major decision looming, or feeling that restless sense that your current path might be missing something deeper. Maybe you’ve achieved success but wonder if you’re living out God’s calling or just climbing ladders. Maybe you’re questioning whether your goals, relationships, or career direction truly align with who God created you to be.

You’re not alone. High-performing Christians often excel at strategic planning but quietly long for the kind of clarity that comes not just from market analysis or networking, but from knowing their life direction flows from God’s love and purposes—not just personal ambition or external expectations.

Here’s the Gospel truth: Your vision isn’t just about what you can accomplish—it’s about who God has called you to be and how His love flows through your unique design into the world. Without this foundation, even successful plans can leave you feeling empty or driven by the wrong motivations.

Strategic planning and goal-setting have their place, but they can’t create true calling. Performance metrics can’t reveal purpose. But when God acts in your planning process, He aligns your deepest desires with His heart, giving you vision that satisfies your soul while serving His kingdom.

Join me. Try this now. Set aside your spreadsheets and timelines, and spend this extended time seeking God’s heart for your next season through the Vision CHEW.

The Vision CHEW (30-45 minutes):

Find a quiet place where you can think, pray, and write without interruption. Take three deep breaths—remembering God’s love guides your steps, even when the path isn’t clear.

Adore: “Father, You are so much wiser than human understanding. You see everything, you understand everything. You love us and work everything together for our good.”

Confess: “What am I actually feeling about my life direction right now? What’s under the surface?”
(Name it honestly: confusion, excitement, fear about making wrong choices, pressure to succeed, gratitude for opportunities, anxiety about the future. Spend 5-7 minutes here, being completely honest with God.)

Hear: “What truth or promise from God do I most need as I consider my future?”

  • “‘For I know the plans I have for you,’ declares the Lord, ‘plans to prosper you and not to harm you, to give you hope and a future.'” (Jeremiah 29:11)
  • “In their hearts humans plan their course, but the Lord establishes their steps.” (Proverbs 16:9)
  • “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!” (2 Corinthians 5:17)
  • “For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.” (Ephesians 2:10)

Exchange: If this Gospel truth is real, how does it shift my heart about my future and calling?
“If I really believed God’s love has uniquely designed me for specific good works and that His plans for me are good, how would that change my approach to major decisions, my fear of making mistakes, or my trust in His guidance?”

I would exchange _____ for _____.
(Example: “I would exchange my anxiety about choosing wrong for trust that God guides my steps even when I can’t see the whole path.”)

Walk: What specific steps will I take to align my next season with God’s love and calling?

Take 15-20 minutes to prayerfully consider and write responses to these questions:

  1. Gifts & Design: How has God uniquely wired me? What are my strongest gifts, deepest passions, and clearest areas of impact?
  2. Current Reality: What in my current life/work/relationships feels most aligned with God’s love? What feels most misaligned?
  3. Kingdom Impact: Where do I see the greatest need that matches my gifts and burden? How might God want to use me to serve others?
  4. Next Steps: What are 2-3 concrete actions I can take in the next 90 days to move toward greater alignment with God’s calling?
  5. Surrender: What am I holding too tightly that I need to surrender to God? What fears or desires need to be submitted to His will?

Thanksgiving & Worship:
Thank God specifically for how He has led you to this point—the experiences, relationships, and even mistakes that have shaped you. End by refocusing your heart on God’s faithfulness and His promise to direct your paths as you trust Him.

Remember: God’s timing is perfect, and His guidance often comes gradually, not all at once. Every step of seeking His will and aligning your life with His love is meaningful. God delights in your desire to follow Him, not just your perfect execution of His plans.
