The Daily CHEW
CHEW on God’s Love. Live Transformed. Multiply Hope.
Sunday afternoon, I find myself checking emails at my kitchen counter in Smoke Rise while family conversations drift from the next room. My heart knows better, but the weight of Monday morning pulls at my attention. For years, I approached Sabbath like another performance metric—rest when the work was done, worship when the schedule permitted. But God moves most deeply when we surrender the myth that our striving powers His kingdom.
Maybe you’ve felt that tension too—the call to rest colliding with the pressure to produce. As a high-performing leader, Sabbath can feel like an interruption to impact rather than the foundation of it. But what if true Sabbath isn’t about pausing productivity—it’s about receiving the overflow that multiplies everything we touch?
When Rest Becomes the Engine of Generosity
Scripture reveals a stunning truth: Sabbath doesn’t diminish our capacity—it multiplies it. Rest anchored in God’s love becomes the wellspring of supernatural generosity, sustainable excellence, and lasting influence.
In Exodus 16, God provided manna on six days but double portions on the sixth day so His people could rest on the seventh. The lesson isn’t that God stops working—it’s that His provision flows most freely when we stop trying to generate it ourselves. Sabbath is God’s invitation to trust His multiplication over our management.
Consider the widow’s oil in 2 Kings 4. Elisha didn’t tell her to work harder or find more jars. He told her to gather empty vessels and watch God multiply what she already had. Sabbath functions the same way—it creates space for God’s love to multiply our joy, our peace, our capacity to serve, and our willingness to give with open hands.
The Science of Sabbath Multiplication
Recent neuroscience confirms what Scripture has always taught: rest doesn’t deplete our resources—it restores and multiplies them. When we cease striving, our brains shift from survival mode to growth mode. Stress hormones decrease while creativity, empathy, and decision-making capacity increase.
But Gospel rest goes deeper than biological restoration. When we CHEW on God’s faithful provision during Sabbath—meditating on His character, confessing our need, and receiving His sufficiency—we’re literally rewiring our hearts to operate from security rather than scarcity. This isn’t positive thinking; it’s Gospel transformation that changes how we lead, love, and give.
CHEW Reset: From Scarcity to Sabbath Multiplication
Join me for a 3-minute reset:
- Breathe: Three deep breaths. God’s provision surrounds you right now—before you achieve anything else.
- Adore: Father, You are the source of every good gift. Your love multiplies what I trust to You.
- Confess: Where am I operating from scarcity rather than trust? What areas of my life feel driven by fear instead of faith?
- Hear: Read Psalm 23:1-3, Matthew 6:25-34, 2 Corinthians 9:8. Which promise most addresses your current struggle with rest and provision?
- Exchange: If God’s love really is sufficient and His provision trustworthy, I would exchange my anxiety about ____ for confidence in His multiplication.
- Walk: This week, what’s one Sabbath practice—margin, gratitude, generous giving, unhurried time with family—that will remind me to receive rather than strive?
- Thanksgiving Worship: Thank God that His love multiplies surrendered rest into increased capacity for Kingdom generosity.
Remember: True strength comes not from endless output but from receiving God’s endless input. Every moment of Sabbath trust is an investment in supernatural multiplication.
CHEW On This:
God’s love multiplies through rest what I could never produce through striving—how would trusting that reality change my approach to Sabbath, leadership, and generosity this week?
Practice this CHEW throughout your week. Share the rhythm with your team, family, or small group. When Gospel rest becomes our foundation, Kingdom impact becomes our overflow—multiplied far beyond what we could manufacture alone.
