The Daily CHEW™
Moving God’s Love from Head to Heart for Christian Professionals

A client texted me: “I love CHEWing, but I’m noticing I’m giving the same answers to the Exchange question every day. My Walk steps are starting to sound identical. Am I doing something wrong, or is this just what happens after you’ve been CHEWing for a while?”

If your CHEWs feel like you’re on autopilot, take heart. That’s often a sign of habit formation and hunger for the next layer, not failure. Let’s get practical about what you can do to break out and go deeper—no matter how your brain is wired.

Why CHEWs Become Repetitive (And Why It’s Actually a Sign of Growth)

Repetition happens for three reasons:

  1. You’ve grasped a core truth (that’s good!) – Like a favorite exercise, you’ll return to foundational truths often.
  2. You’re ready for new ground (growth opportunity) – It’s time to stretch further.
  3. You’re zoning out or coasting (problem) – This is your nudge to re-engage.

The goal: keep rehearsing what’s essential while intentionally opening space for fresh discovery.

Practical Ways to Break Out of the Rut and Go Deeper—For Every Personality

1. Get More Specific With Confession

Instead of “I’m stressed,” try: “God, I’m worried about my 2pm staff meeting—I’m afraid I’ll mess it up and lose respect.”
Or: “I’m grateful for You, but noticing I always get tense before talking to my spouse about finances.”

Tip: If you’re a detail person, write it out or even say it aloud so you catch your real emotion. If you’re big-picture, ask: “What’s the pattern I notice behind this feeling?”

2. Rotate the Kind of Scriptures You Use

  • Try a Psalm one day (emotions).
  • A story about Jesus another (actions).
  • A parable, a proverb, a promise from a letter to the churches.
  • Ask, “What aspect of God’s character would surprise me today?”

Tip: Use a different version or try a chapter you’ve rarely explored.

3. Ask “Why?” and “What Would Change?” in Exchange

  • “What do I want to avoid?”
  • “If I believed this, what’s one thing I would actually do differently?”
  • “Is there someone I’d relate to differently, or a conversation I’d approach with more compassion or courage?”

Push your answer one step further: After you answer, pause and ask, “What else?”

4. Make Your Walk Step Clear and Measurable

Instead of “I’ll try to trust God,” use:

  • “Today I’ll spend a quiet minute before work praying my big fear to God—before checking my phone.”
  • “If I get anxious, I’ll take three breaths, remember I’m loved, then respond.”

The key: Give yourself an action, a time, and a way to know you did it.

5. Explore Different Angles of God’s Love

Each CHEW, pick a specific attribute:

  • God’s love is patient—how does that show up today?
  • God’s love pursues me—what does that mean for my avoidance?
  • God’s love disciplines—how is He growing me now?
  • God’s love celebrates me—can I accept that today?

Try one a week. Let your CHEW orbit around that trait.

6. Journal (or Voice Record) Your CHEWs for a Week

  • Each day, jot your main insight and action.
  • After 7 days, review: What’s repeating? What’s deepening?
  • Notice: Is God nudging a new theme or challenge you usually skip?

7. Invite Someone Else In

Share your answers with a friend or group or even pray aloud with someone. A different perspective often sparks new honesty and insights.

CHEW On This™ in 3–5 Minutes: Opening Up New Levels

Confess (C) to God
“Father, here’s what I’m honestly feeling: My CHEWs are stuck on repeat. I’m grateful I crave You daily, but I want to stretch. Show me what I’m missing or afraid to face—or give me new creativity in how I approach You.”

Hear (H) from God in Scripture
“Father, what Scripture would You use to break new ground for me today?”
“If then you have been raised with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is.” (Colossians 3:1)

Exchange (E) with God
“If I really believed God loves me as much as He loves Jesus, what would change right now?”
Then ask: “What’s one new way I could live differently today, even in something small?”

Walk (W) with the Holy Spirit
“My plan for today: What, when, and how will I put this in motion?”

Worship: The Journey is the Reward

God’s love is infinite, but our approach can grow stale—until we invite Him to surprise us again. The moment you notice repetition is the moment you’re invited to the next step of discovery. His freshness is never far—it’s just one honest, creative CHEW away.
