When Your Next Decision Could Change Everything: The 5-Minute CHEW for Wise Choices

The Daily CHEW™
CHEW on God’s Love. Live Transformed. Multiply Hope.

The email sits in my inbox with “URGENT – Need decision by EOD” in the subject line, and I can feel my chest tighten. As a high-performing leader who’s navigated complex business decisions before, I know this feeling well—the weight of knowing that what I choose next could reshape my team, my family’s future, or the direction of everything. In moments like these, my mind races through scenarios, potential outcomes, and that quiet voice asking: What if I choose wrong?

Maybe you know this pressure too. Maybe you’re staring at a decision that feels too big, too urgent, or too unclear—whether it’s a strategic pivot, a difficult personnel choice, a family transition, or even which opportunity to pursue next. As Christian leaders, we want our choices to honor God, but when the stakes feel high and time feels short, it’s easy to default to fear-driven analysis or pride-fueled self-reliance rather than the wisdom that flows from being deeply loved.

The Hidden Battle Behind Every Big Decision

Beneath every significant choice lies a deeper question: Am I making this decision from a place of security in God’s love, or am I choosing from fear, pride, or the pressure to prove something? High performers are especially vulnerable here. We’re used to analyzing data, weighing risks, and driving results—all good things—but when we’re disconnected from the Gospel foundation of our identity, even our best decision-making can become another form of striving.

The truth is, the wisest choices flow not from perfect analysis or flawless strategy, but from hearts anchored in the reality that we are as loved, secure, and valued as the Cross proves. When we CHEW on this truth—especially in decision-making moments—God reshapes our perspective, our priorities, and our peace.

Join Me for a Decision CHEW

When facing your next significant choice, try this 5-minute Decision CHEW. It’s designed to move you from fear or pride into the clarity that comes from being rooted in God’s love:

Decision CHEW in 5 Minutes:

  1. Take Three Deep Breaths
God’s love is present now—before any choice is made, before any outcome is known.
  2. Adore:
“Father, You have loved me from eternity, and Your wisdom guides every decision. You see what I cannot see and hold what I cannot control.”
  3. Confess:
What decision am I facing? Name it specifically.
What am I actually feeling about this choice? (Pressure, excitement, fear, confusion?)
Where am I tempted to choose from fear, pride, or performance rather than from Your love?
  4. Hear:
What Gospel truth speaks to this decision?
    • “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding” (Proverbs 3:5)
    • “The heart of man plans his way, but the Lord establishes his steps” (Proverbs 16:9)
    • “And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good” (Romans 8:28)
  5. Exchange:
If I’m as loved as the Cross proves, what’s the wisest choice?
If I truly believed God’s love makes me secure regardless of outcomes, how would that change my decision-making process?
I would exchange ______ (anxiety, need to control, fear of failure) for ______ (trust, peace, God-centered wisdom).
  6. Walk:
    What step honors that love?
What is one concrete action I can take that reflects trust in God’s love and wisdom? (Seek counsel, move forward in faith, pause for more prayer, have an honest conversation)
  7. Thanksgiving & Worship:
Thank God that He holds both your decision and its outcomes. Rest in His love that doesn’t change based on whether you choose perfectly.

Remember This

Decision-making isn’t about achieving certainty—it’s about choosing from the right foundation. God delights when we bring our choices to Him, seek wisdom, and trust His love to work through both our best decisions and our imperfect ones.

CHEW On This™

If I really believed God’s love is sufficient to cover my imperfect choices and powerful enough to work through my decisions for good, how would that change the way I approach this choice—and the peace I carry regardless of the outcome?

Growing in Wisdom Together

The Decision CHEW works best when practiced in community. Consider sharing your decision-making process with your CHEW triad, team, or family. There’s wisdom in multiple counselors and freedom in bringing our choices into the light rather than carrying the weight alone.
