The Daily CHEW™
Chew on God’s Love. Live Transformed. Multiply Hope.
Yesterday morning, I caught myself checking my phone mid-prayer—not from insecurity about my worth, but from that familiar pressure of time slipping away and tasks mounting. As a driven personal consultant who genuinely loves helping leaders grow, I realized I was approaching even my relationship with God like an efficient project to optimize rather than a beloved son receiving from his Father.
Maybe you know this tension too—the shift from operating as God’s beloved to operating in what I call “orphan mode,” where you’re competent and capable but disconnected from the source. Maybe your greatest challenge isn’t shame or insecurity, but staying anchored in relationship with the Father when the demands intensify and time feels scarce. Maybe you’ve found yourself treating even your most sacred moments like efficient projects to optimize rather than opportunities to receive from your loving Father.
Here’s what I’m learning: that distraction during our most sacred moments isn’t really about needing better systems or more discipline. It’s about a core belief that whispers we must handle everything independently instead of remaining connected to our Father’s heart. The Gospel reveals that our competence and capability are gifts that flow from being beloved, not isolated achievements we must generate alone.
Self-help promises we can optimize our way to balance. But only God’s love provides the secure connection that keeps us anchored as sons and daughters, even when the pressure mounts and time feels short.
CHEW Reset Invitation
Join me in pausing right here—not because we’re broken, but because we’re beloved children who can return home anytime. No preparation needed, no spiritual heroics required—just an honest return to what God already offers. Try this now.
Clear CHEW Template (with Thanksgiving & Worship)
CHEW in 3-5 Minutes:
- Take three deep breaths—remembering you’re not an orphan managing life alone, but a beloved child with a Father who cares.
- Adore: “Father, You delight in me as Your child, not just as a productive person getting things done.”
- Confess: “What am I actually feeling right now? Where have I shifted into orphan mode today?” Be honest about times you’ve operated independently rather than from connection.
- Hear: “What truth about God’s love do I most need?” Consider these promises:
- “And my God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus” (Philippians 4:19)
- “Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest” (Matthew 11:28)
- “See what kind of love the Father has given to us, that we should be called children of God” (1 John 3:1)
- Exchange: If this truth is real, how does it shift my heart?
- I exchange orphan-mode independence for childlike dependence on my Father
- I exchange time anxiety for trust in God’s provision and timing
- I exchange competence pressure for confidence in God’s partnership
- Walk: What’s one small action I’ll take as a next step, living from His love?
- Choose one conversation, decision, or moment today where I’ll operate as a beloved child, not an independent orphan
- Thanksgiving & Worship:
- Thank God that you belong to Him—not as an employee but as a son or daughter
- End by re-focusing your heart on being loved, not just being productive
Remember This:
Growth isn’t instant, and that gap between knowing God’s love and staying connected to it in pressure moments doesn’t disappear overnight. Every honest return from orphan mode back to sonship is a win—whether it feels transformative or ordinary. God delights in your return to relationship, not in your perfect spiritual performance.
CHEW On This™:
If I really believed God’s love is a constant invitation to partnership rather than pressure to perform alone, how would that change the way I approach my most demanding moments today?
Community Call
Repeat this CHEW tomorrow, or better yet, in community. Transformation happens best when you can share honest gaps and celebrate returns together with others who understand the tension between competence and connection.
