The Daily CHEW™
Chew on God’s Love. Live Transformed. Multiply Hope.
I sat in my car outside the office building last week, staring at a new client’s building that felt both thrilling and challenging—the kind that makes this driven, first-born son of two up-from-poverty-over-achieving-physicians heart race with possibility and freeze with “do I really have what it takes to pull this off?” Maybe it was the weight of my family’s drive or just my ENFJ need to make the “right” choice and have everyone pleased, but I realized I was diving into this new contract too focused on me and not engaging it as a dearly loved adopted son of the Most High King.
Maybe you know that feeling—standing at the edge of something that stretches your abilities, wondering if your skills are really enough for what’s ahead. Maybe you’re facing a new role, a challenging project, or a ministry opportunity that feels both exciting and overwhelming. Maybe you don’t question your worth as a person, but you do wonder if your toolkit is sufficient for the task God has placed before you.
Here’s what I’m learning: our deepest longing isn’t just to be competent or to have all the right skills—it’s to rest in the truth that God’s love for us isn’t dependent on our performance, and His calling on our lives isn’t limited by our current capabilities. We exhaust ourselves trying to prove we’re qualified, gather every credential, or wait until we feel “ready enough,” but God’s love offers something better: the confidence to step into His purposes knowing that He equips those He calls, not because of our sufficiency but because of His.
Join me in something deeper than skill-building or confidence coaching. Join me for a Vision CHEW—a longer, quarterly practice where we realign our calling and capabilities with the love of God that never wavers, even when we feel stretched beyond our comfort zone.
CHEW in 30-45 Minutes:
Take five deep breaths—remembering that God’s love covers both your calling and your limitations, and that He delights to work through those who depend on His strength.
Adore (5 minutes): “Father, You love me as Your adopted son/daughter, and Your calling on my life flows from Your heart of love, not from my performance or perfection. You are the One who equips and empowers.”
Confess (8-10 minutes): Where am I trusting in my own abilities instead of Your love and provision? What fears about competence or “being enough” am I carrying into this new opportunity? Where do I feel most stretched or uncertain about my skills? What expectations—from family, clients, or myself—am I trying to meet in my own strength?
Hear (10-12 minutes): What truth about God’s love do I most need for this season of stretching and growth? (Choose one Gospel promise that speaks directly to what you just confessed, or browse these targeted categories to find the biblical truth your heart most needs right now.)
- “And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that having all sufficiency in all things at all times, you may abound in every good work” (2 Corinthians 9:8)
- “But he said to me, ‘My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness'” (2 Corinthians 12:9)
- “For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them” (Ephesians 2:10)
Exchange (10-12 minutes): If I really believed God’s love is sufficient and empowering, how would that change my approach to this new challenge or opportunity? What would I exchange anxiety about my capabilities for? What would I exchange need to prove myself for? How would trusting His love shift the way I prepare for and engage this calling?
Walk (3-5 minutes): What is one concrete step I can take this quarter—in preparation, prayer, relationships, or mindset—that flows from trusting God’s empowering love rather than my need to be perfectly qualified before I begin?
Thanksgiving & Worship (5 minutes): Thank God that His love is your true qualification—that even in your limitations, you are called, equipped, and empowered by His grace. Worship Him not for making you feel confident in your abilities, but for the love that works through your dependence on Him.
Growth doesn’t happen through perfect preparation or flawless competence. God delights in our willingness to step into His calling with honest dependence, trusting His love to bridge the gap between where we are and what He’s calling us to do. Every honest acknowledgment of our need is wisdom, and every step taken in His strength is celebrated by Him.
