The Daily CHEW™
Chew on God’s Love. Live Transformed. Multiply Hope.
Last Tuesday, I found myself snapping at my wife when she wasn’t being clear in the way she was communicating to me. I was running on little sleep, didn’t feel great, and was rushing to get to my first session. That’s no excuse. I apologized. She was more than gracious and got it. As I got to my car in the garage I thought to myself, “I know God loves me, so why do I keep living like I have to have everything perfectly efficient and running smoothly in order to succeed?” The gap between my theology and my Tuesday morning felt enormous.
Maybe you’ve been there too. You can quote verses about God’s unconditional love, lead Bible studies, and encourage others in their faith—but when real pressure hits, when decisions loom large, or when you’re alone with your anxious thoughts at 2 AM, that love feels like head knowledge instead of heart reality. Maybe you’re tired of the distance between what you believe about God and how you actually experience Him moment by moment.
Here’s what I’ve discovered after years of coaching Christian leaders: The shortest path from knowing God’s love to living from it isn’t more Bible study or trying harder—it’s a simple, daily practice that rewires our deepest beliefs about who God is and who we are to Him. It’s called CHEWing, and it’s designed to close the gap between head and heart through one transformative rhythm.
Join me as I show you not just what CHEWing is, but how to start small, grow steady, and go all-in until God’s love becomes the living center of everything you do.
The Heart of the Problem: Why Good Theology Doesn’t Always Change Real Life
According to Proverbs 4:23, “Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.” The problem isn’t that we don’t know enough about God’s love—it’s that our core beliefs, shaped by years of experience, haven’t caught up with our head knowledge.
CHEW stands for Confess, Hear, Exchange, Walk—four simple steps that Scripture teaches can realign our deepest beliefs with Gospel truth:
- Confess: Bring what’s real (fear, longing, gratitude, struggle) openly before God’s unwavering love
- Hear: Turn to Scripture for a specific truth about God’s love that speaks to your current need
- Exchange: Ask the transforming question: “If I truly believed God’s love is [specific characteristic], how would that change [my specific situation]?”
- Walk: Take one Spirit-empowered step that embodies your renewed beliefs
The beauty is that CHEWing works whether you have 30 seconds or 30 minutes, whether you’re celebrating or struggling, whether you’re alone or with others.
Starting Small: Your First CHEW
Take a moment right now. Think about what you’re feeling as you read this—maybe skepticism, hope, overwhelm, or curiosity.
Confess: “God, I’m feeling [name it honestly]. I see the gap between what I say I believe about Your love and how I actually live day to day.”
Hear: “As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you” (John 15:9). Jesus loves you with the exact same love the Father has for Him—completely, unconditionally, without reservation.
Exchange: “If I truly believed that God loves me as much as He loves Jesus, what would change right now about this very moment?”
Walk: What’s one small step you could take today—maybe bookmarking this page, setting a phone reminder, or texting someone about trying this—that reflects trust in God’s love for you?
Thank God that His love doesn’t wait for perfect understanding or flawless consistency. Rest in the truth that He delights in every sincere turn toward Him.
Growing Steady: Making CHEW Your Daily Rhythm
The goal isn’t spiritual perfection—it’s daily return to the love that’s already yours. Here’s how thousands of Christians are building sustainable CHEW habits:
Week 1: Choose one daily moment (morning coffee, commute, bedtime) for a simple CHEW. Focus on consistency over depth.
Week 2: Add variety—try different types of CHEWs for different situations. A quick reset before meetings, deeper processing during quiet time, gratitude CHEWs when things go well.
Week 3: Invite community. CHEWing is most powerful when practiced together—find someone to share your returns with.
Week 4: Celebrate your returns to God’s love, however imperfect. Every honest CHEW is progress, not performance.
The key insight: CHEWing isn’t another task to master but a pathway home to God’s heart. Even busy leaders can make this a sustainable rhythm when they focus on consistency over complexity.
Going All-In: When CHEW Becomes Your Culture
Real transformation happens when CHEWing becomes so natural that it shapes not just your quiet times, but your responses to stress, your decision-making process, your relationships, and your leadership. This is when God’s love truly moves from head to heart.
All-in CHEWers report:
- Faster recovery from setbacks because they know how to return to God’s love
- Deeper peace in decision-making because they’re anchored in their identity as beloved
- Stronger relationships because they’re not seeking from others what only God can provide
- More resilient leadership because their security isn’t tied to outcomes
- Greater joy in ordinary moments because they recognize God’s love everywhere
The beautiful paradox: The more you CHEW, the less you need to think about CHEWing. It becomes as natural as breathing—an automatic return to the source of all life and love.
CHEW On This™:
If you really believed that developing a consistent habit of returning to God’s love could transform not just your spiritual life, but your relationships, your leadership, your decision-making, and your deepest sense of peace and purpose, what would be worth changing about how you approach the next 30 days?
