When Monday Morning Meetings Feel Like Spiritual Warfare: A Workplace CHEW for High-Pressure Decisions

The Daily CHEW™

CHEW on God’s Love. Live Transformed. Multiply Hope

This morning I woke at 3 AM—not by choice, but because my mind was already racing through the day’s agenda. Three back-to-back client meetings, a one-year leadership development program proposal presentation that could determine our team’s next quarter, and a difficult conversation with a colleague who’s been consistently missing deadlines. By 3:15, I was mentally rehearsing worst-case scenarios and calculating contingency plans. Sound familiar?

Maybe you recognize this pattern—the way work pressures pull you into survival mode before you’ve even had your first cup of coffee. Maybe you’ve felt that familiar tension between wanting to honor God in your professional life and feeling like you’re just trying to keep your head above water when decisions pile up and stakes feel impossibly high.

Here’s what I’ve learned: that internal pressure we feel isn’t primarily about workload or even difficult people. It’s about a deeper longing for security and significance that gets hijacked by professional performance. When we operate from that place of striving, even our best intentions to “be Christian at work” become another form of self-reliance. But God’s love offers something fundamentally different—a foundation that doesn’t shift with quarterly results or difficult colleagues.

Finding Your Footing When Work Feels Overwhelming

Join me for a CHEW right now—no prep needed, just 3-5 minutes to return to what God already offers in the midst of professional pressure.

CHEW in 3-5 Minutes:

  1. Take three deep breaths—remembering God’s love is present now, even in your office, even in the middle of that challenging project.
  2. Adore: “Father, You are infinitely wise and take perfect care of your children.”
  3. Confess: What am I actually feeling about work right now? Where is my security really anchored? What’s the fear or striving underneath my professional stress?
  4. Hear: What truth about God’s love do I most need today?
    • “In Christ, you are already accepted” – Ephesians 1:6
    • “I will be with you; I will not leave you or forsake you” – Joshua 1:5
    • “Cast all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you” – 1 Peter 5:7
  5. Exchange: If God’s love truly secures me, I would exchange my need to control outcomes for trust in His provision. I would exchange my fear of professional failure for confidence in His unchanging delight in me.
  6. Walk: What’s one small step I can take today to work from God’s love rather than professional anxiety? Maybe it’s choosing honesty over impression management in that difficult conversation. Maybe it’s beginning my next meeting with a silent prayer, remembering I’m loved regardless of the outcome.
  7. Thanksgiving & Worship: Thank God that His love for you doesn’t fluctuate with your professional performance. Rest your heart on His kindness, not on your ability to manage every variable.

Remember This

Professional transformation isn’t about having perfect faith at work or never feeling stress. It’s about returning—again and again—to the love that holds you whether the presentation goes well or terribly, whether the difficult conversation brings breakthrough or requires more patience. God delights in your trust, not your ability to have it all figured out.
