The Daily CHEW™
CHEW on God’s Love. Live Transformed. Multiply Hope
This morning I opened my Bible to Romans 8:38-39—verses I’ve read dozens of times, verses I could probably quote from memory. “For I am sure that neither death nor life…will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.” I read the words, nodded at the familiar truth, and started to close my Bible to move on with my morning. But something stopped me. These weren’t just beautiful theological concepts—these words carried weight for the client relationship I’ve been worrying about, the financial pressure I’ve been carrying, the fear that keeps surfacing about our team’s future.
Maybe you know this pattern. Maybe you’ve felt the frustration of reading Scripture regularly but walking away feeling like you’ve completed a religious obligation rather than encountered the living God. Maybe you’ve wondered why Bible study sometimes feels academic—full of good information but lacking the power to actually change your heart in real-time struggles. Maybe you’ve read verses about God’s love but still found yourself operating from anxiety, verses about His provision while still worrying about money, verses about His peace while still feeling constantly stressed.
Here’s what I’ve learned through years of helping high-performers move God’s truth from head to heart: Bible reading isn’t primarily about information transfer or theological education. It’s about encountering the living God who has revealed Himself through His Word to transform our core beliefs and heart responses to real-life challenges. When we approach Scripture as text to study rather than as God’s revelation of His character and promises, we miss the transformative power that makes His Word “living and active.” But God’s love offers something revolutionary—the ability to see how His revealed truth applies to our current circumstances through His eternal Word.
Moving From Bible Reading to Heart Transformation
Join me for an extended CHEW right now—designed specifically to help God’s Word penetrate beyond your mind into the deep places where real change happens.
Scripture CHEW in 10-20 Minutes:
Preparation (1-2 minutes):
Choose a passage that connects to your current struggle or longing. This could be:
- A verse God has brought to mind recently
- Scripture that addresses what you’re facing right now
- A passage from your regular reading plan
- One of the verses from our Scripture for Common Struggles resource
1. Read and Receive (2-3 minutes):
Read the passage slowly at least twice. Ask: “God, how does Your Word reveal Your character and promises? How does this truth apply to what I’m experiencing right now?”
2. Adore (2-3 minutes):
Focus on what the passage reveals about God’s character and His love for you. “Father, this passage shows me that You are…Even in my current situation, You are…”
3. Confess (3-5 minutes):
What does this Scripture expose about where your heart has been anchored instead of in God’s love? Be specific: “This passage shows me I’ve been trusting in… instead of You. I’ve been afraid of… instead of resting in Your love. I confess that I’ve been operating from… rather than from what Your Word reveals about You.”
4. Hear Deeply (5-8 minutes):
This is the heart of Scripture CHEW. Ask these questions:
- What specific characteristic of God’s love does this passage reveal?
- How does this truth address my current struggle or longing?
- What would change in my heart and behavior if I really believed this?
- What old core belief is God wanting to replace with this truth from His Word?
Don’t rush this section. Sit with the passage. Let God’s Spirit use His Word to transform your understanding.
5. Exchange (2-3 minutes):
Based on what God has revealed in His Word, what specific heart exchange do you need to make?
“If this truth about God’s love revealed in Scripture is really true, I would exchange my [fear/worry/striving] for [trust/peace/rest]. I would exchange my [old belief] for [new truth from this passage].”
6. Walk (2-3 minutes):
What’s one concrete way you can live from this Scripture truth today? Be specific:
- How will you approach that difficult situation differently?
- What decision will you make from this truth rather than from fear?
- How will you respond to people from this understanding of God’s revealed character?
7. Thanksgiving & Worship (1-2 minutes):
Thank God that He has revealed Himself and His love through His Word. Thank Him that His truth has power to transform your heart, not just inform your mind.
8. Return Throughout the Day:
Choose one phrase from the passage to return to when anxiety, fear, or old patterns surface. Let this become your “heart anchor” for the day.
Advanced Scripture CHEW Practices
For Deeper Study: If you have more time, look up cross-references, examine the original context, or study the original Greek/Hebrew words. But always return to the personal application: “How is God’s love revealed here, and how does that change my heart?”
For Persistent Struggles: Choose passages that specifically address your ongoing challenges and CHEW on them for a week, asking God to move that truth from your head to your heart through repetition and meditation.
For Heart Renewal: When you notice old patterns returning, come back to the passages God has used to transform your thinking previously.
Remember This
Scripture CHEW isn’t about perfect Bible knowledge or flawless theological understanding. It’s about returning—again and again—to God’s Word as His revelation of His character and promises, letting Him transform your core beliefs and responses through repeated encounters with His truth and love.
CHEW On This™:
If I really believed God’s Word is His perfect revelation of His love and has power to transform my deepest struggles, how would that change the way I approach Bible reading and apply Scripture to my daily challenges?
The CHEW system works best when practiced in community. Consider sharing insights from your Scripture CHEWs with trusted friends or family members. Explore what changes when you create consistent rhythms for letting God’s Word transform your heart—not just inform your mind.
