The Daily CHEW™
Moving God’s Love from Head to Heart for Christian Professionals
Client Scenario
Jim is tired of waiting for some magical day when his desire to repent will be strong enough to finally set him free. He’s tried to “want it more,” but the follow-through never lasts. He goes back and forth wondering, “How does anyone actually raise the desire, commitment, and consistency that creates real distance from stronghold sins?”
Surprising Gospel Insight: Want Grows from Gazing, Radical Steps, and Community, Not Just Wishing
Here’s good news that most Christians miss: Lasting desire for full repentance isn’t the starting line, it’s the byproduct of three Gospel practices: gazing at Christ, taking radical small steps (before you feel ready), and leaning into honest community.
- Gazing: Immerse yourself in seeing the glory and kindness of Christ—not just your sin’s cost (Romans 2:4). Set aside time daily to CHEW, not waiting for motivation, but putting yourself “in the path of desire” by focusing on God’s love.
- Radical Small Steps: Do with your body and schedule what your heart is slow to want. Build new boundaries, change routines, confess immediately. Old loves are “starved” by brave new habits, even before feelings change.
- Honest Community: Tell the truth about your struggle to one or two steady friends. Ask them to pray specifically for your desire, not just your discipline.
The “distance” from sin you crave grows not from waiting for perfect want, but by feeding desire through persistent pursuit, step by step.
Let’s CHEW on this right now.
CHEW On This™ in 3–5 Minutes
Confess (C) to God
Father, here’s what I’m honestly feeling: I want a stronger desire to leave this stronghold, but mine comes and goes. I want radical, lasting change—not just good intentions. Show me where I can pursue You instead of waiting to want more.
Hear (H) from God in Scripture
“What Scripture do You want me to wrestle with right now?”
“It is your kindness, Lord, that leads me to repentance.” (Romans 2:4)
What’s true about You or Your love in this?
You’re not demanding I summon desire on my own—you’re inviting me to receive and act as You grow it.
Exchange (E) with God
If I really believed God loves me as much as He loves Jesus, what would change right now?
Today, I give You my fractured desire and take up one new step of obedience as worship—asking You to produce greater want as I walk.
Walk (W) with the Holy Spirit
Holy Spirit, what’s one step for the next ten minutes?
Here’s the step I believe pleases You:
Reach out to a trusted believer and honestly share where I feel stuck. Ask them to ask me about my desire, not merely my results, this week.
Worship: God Is the Composer of New Desire
Worship doesn’t flow from the wish for more want—it’s born in actions of surrender, truth, and trust. The God who commands and supplies turns every small act of return into the soil where longing and freedom grow.
