The Daily CHEW™
Moving God’s Love from Head to Heart for Christian Professionals
I have been preaching simple practices all week — practicing Christ’s presence, CHEWing on His love throughout the day, not just in the morning. This week I had to practice what I preach. I reduced my hours so I would have energy at home instead of leftovers. I kept returning to Christ between sessions. And something unexpected happened. My heart opened in a way I did not plan. My wife and I ended up in a conversation that lasted until 2 a.m. — not solving a problem, just being fully present to each other. I thought I loved her deeply. I did. But my love for her went to another level that night. The unhurried day gave space for my heart to open even further to her — and she met me right there. Days later I can still feel the glow from that conversation. The way we look at each other is deeper. I thought my marriage was already great. This is another level. And it started with the simplest thing: staying aware of Christ’s presence long enough for Him to do what only He can do — soften a heart that did not know it had more room.
Clarity
Lord, I confess that even when my marriage is strong, I sometimes coast on what we have built instead of staying open to what You want to deepen.
Hear
“Above all, keep loving one another earnestly, since love covers a multitude of sins.” 1 Peter 4:8, ESV
God does not cap the depth of love He builds between a husband and wife. Scripture reveals that earnest love is not a ceiling — it is a direction. God’s love keeps moving deeper, and when we stay unhurried in His presence, He opens rooms in our hearts we did not know existed.
Exchange
If I really believed God’s love has more room to grow in my closest relationship than I have yet experienced, how would that change the way I protect unhurried time with the person who matters most?
Walk (30–90 seconds)
Before this weekend begins, block one unhurried evening — no screens, no agenda. Sit with the person closest to you and simply be present. Turn to where you have placed Christ in the room and trust Him with whatever opens up. If this is the only thing I do from this CHEW today, it is enough.
With you on the journey,
Ryan
If you had to put this into one sentence for today, what would you say God is inviting you to rest in or return to?
