When Opportunity Knocks at the Wrong Time: How God’s Love Disarms Anxiety in Busy Seasons

In a recent coaching session, a client shared his experience in business: “If you need more business, plan a vacation and you’ll be flooded with it.” With new referrals pouring in, tight timelines, and a long-awaited trip abroad on the horizon, his anxiety soared—not just about work demands, but about the pressure to perform, the fear of missing out, and guilt about boundaries. He wanted a practical way to anchor his heart in God’s love and avoid burnout.

Maybe this scenario sounds familiar: as a leader, entrepreneur, or high performer, you feel torn between gratitude for new opportunities and a worry that you can’t meet every expectation. That anxiety often leads to distraction, over-functioning, or self-criticism, especially as timelines collide with personal needs for rest, fun, or family.

Underneath, the struggle isn’t just about managing time—it’s a deeper longing for security and an abundance mentality rooted in God’s love. The Gospel invites clients to face anxiety not by working harder or hustling through, but by returning to the truth: God’s love for them is as unwavering as His love for Jesus, no matter how much gets done.

How to Use CHEW Questions for Targeted Application

1. Start with “If I really believed God loves me as much as He loves Jesus…”

2. Attach your specific anxiety, fear, or struggle directly to the second half of the question.

Examples for a client:

  • “If I really believed God loves me as much as He loves Jesus, how would that impact the anxiety I feel about losing business opportunities right before my vacation?”
  • “If I really believed God loves me as much as He loves Jesus, what would change about my focus when I feel pulled in too many directions?”
  • “If I really believed God loves me as much as He loves Jesus, what work would I delegate to my team instead of carrying it all myself?”
  • “If I really believed God loves me as much as He loves Jesus, how would I experience more joy in the middle of a business flurry?”
  • “If I really believed God loves me as much as He loves Jesus, how might I detach and rest while in Spain, trusting God with my business?”

This approach targets the specific core driver (like security, acceptance, or significance) and helps clients practice belief renewal for every unique circumstance.Practitioner-The-1st-Principle-Transformation-Framework.docx+1

Practice: A CHEW Guided Reset for High Performers

Take three slow breaths. Remember: God’s love is here, now—not contingent on your business or productivity.

Adore: “Father, thank You for loving me right now, independent of my work or schedule.”

Confess: “What is the real source of my anxiety? Am I afraid of missing out, losing worth, or being unable to meet others’ expectations?”

Hear:
Sample promises:

  • “Cast all your anxiety on Him because He cares for you.” (1 Peter 5:7)
  • “Seek first the Kingdom… and all these things will be added.” (Matthew 6:33)

Exchange:
If I believed God’s love is abundant enough for this flurry of opportunity, I would exchange my stress for trust and my need to control for permission to rest.

Walk:
“What is one practical step to live from God’s love today—maybe setting a boundary, sharing capacity honestly, or choosing to celebrate, not just complete, each task?”

Thanksgiving & Worship:
Thank God for loving and providing—even in busy, anxious seasons.

Remember

Every honest return to God’s love—especially under pressure—is a real win. Progress is measured by growing trust, not by eliminating all tasks or anxieties.
