The Daily CHEW™
Chew on God’s Love. Live Transformed. Multiply Hope.
I was scrolling through my phone in the car last week, avoiding the very thing I love because I felt like a fraud. Here I am, teaching people about transformation through God’s love, yet my own spiritual rhythm felt completely off—distracted prayers, half-hearted confessions, Scripture that seemed to bounce right off me. The weight of it was crushing my significance-driven soul.
But maybe you know exactly what I’m talking about.
As a high-performing Christian, you’ve built a life around excellence. Your business thrives because you pay attention to details. Your team respects you because you deliver results. Your family depends on you because you’ve proven yourself reliable. You’ve learned that consistency and precision matter—that success comes from doing things the right way, every time.
So when your spiritual practices feel messy, incomplete, or just plain broken, it hits differently. When your CHEW feels distracted, when your quiet time feels flat, when your prayers seem to go nowhere—suddenly you’re not just struggling with spiritual disciplines, you’re questioning whether you’re failing at the most important thing of all.
The familiar script kicks in: If you can’t do this right, maybe you shouldn’t be leading others. If CHEW isn’t working for you, how can you expect God to use you in your business, your family, your calling? That deep need for security starts whispering that maybe you need to figure this out before you can really serve. The longing for acceptance wonders if God is even pleased with these fumbling attempts. The desire for love questions whether you’re truly connecting with the Father when everything feels so… amateur.
Here’s what I’ve discovered, and what I want every driven leader to know: CHEW doesn’t work because we do it perfectly. It works because it keeps bringing us back to a love that’s already perfect, already complete, already ours—even on the days when we can barely remember why we started.
Confess: Maybe you need to get honest too. Not just with God, but with yourself and the people who matter most. “God, I’ve been trying to CHEW perfectly instead of honestly. I’ve been more concerned with getting it right than with coming home to You. I’m tired of performing, even in prayer.”
Hear: The Gospel truth that meets us isn’t about trying harder. It’s Lamentations 3:22-23—”The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.” His faithfulness, not ours. His love, not our performance.
Exchange: We have to let go of the lie that spiritual practices only “count” when they feel deep or transformative. In exchange, we receive the truth that God’s love shows up especially in the mess—that our distracted, imperfect CHEWs are still sacred moments of return, not spiritual failures.
Walk: The next step is vulnerable but necessary: sharing this struggle with someone safe. Instead of showing up as the leader who has it all figured out, show up as someone still learning to receive grace in the ordinary, imperfect rhythms of following Jesus.
The turning point isn’t a mountain-top moment or a perfect quiet time. It’s the gentle realization that God’s love for you doesn’t fluctuate based on how “successful” your spiritual practices feel. Your worth isn’t tied to your spiritual performance any more than it’s tied to your business results. Your calling doesn’t depend on flawless execution of spiritual disciplines.
When you realize this—really realize it—something shifts. The pressure lifts. The striving stops. And suddenly CHEW becomes what it was always meant to be: not another metric to master, but a simple way of coming home to the love that’s already yours.
